I Do Not Consent To One Nation Under God
I’ve got a beef with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Every time I hear people saying the Pledge of Allegiance, I focus on one word: UNDER.
Christian Nationalists demand that the United States of America be transformed into One Nation Under God.
I keep asking myself why they want to put the nation UNDER God. Why not next to God?
The answer is pretty clear: They want the United States of America to be subservient to God. They want the USA to have God on top of it, mounting it, doing whatever the hell God wants to with the nation.
One Nation Under God is about control. One Nation Under God is about domination. One Nation Under God is about oppression.
Now picture the Statue of Liberty under God.
One Nation Under God feels a whole lot like rape, with Jesus thrusting himself on top of us all, doing whatever makes him feel like he’s in control.
One Nation Under God is really fucked up.
The Pledge of Allegiance is about POWER. It’s a ritual of surrender of power to the Christian god, which really means surrendering power to Christian priests and preachers and politicians.
The United States of America is not supposed to be a nation controlled by patriarchs.
We are supposed to have power in the hands of the people, not in the hands of unelected church leaders and their puppets in the government.
I want Christian Nationalists to keep their dirty hands away from America’s democracy.
I want separation of church and state.
