If Jesus Loves Me

You know the song that they sing to children: Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Have you ever stopped to ask: What the heck does the Bible know about you? Real love is about knowing an actual person for who they are. The Bible doesn’t know you, and neither does Jesus. They’ve never met you.

You know who Jesus is hanging around with these days? Donald Trump. Christian Nationalists put this fascist into power, and they are loving their portion of that power.

If Jesus loves me, what is he doing in bed with Donald Trump?

Okay, okay. Jesus, if such a person ever existed, has been dead for about 2,000 years. So, he isn't actually literally hanging out with Donald Trump.

Jesus jumping into bed with Donald Trump seems like an apt metaphor of the enthusiastic embrace of Donald Trump's fascism by Christian Nationalists, though. 60 percent of American Christians voted for Donald Trump in 2016, 2020, and 2024, and that tells us a lot about the real values of "Jesus".

"Jesus" is a concept, not an actual person. Christianity is what Christians do, not what an ancient book says they theoretically ought to do. 

In this sense, Jesus has been rolling around under the covers with Donald Trump for the last ten years.
