Jesus Divides

It is no accident that Christianity is associated with intolerance. According to the Bible’s New Testament, Jesus proudly promoted social division in order to gain fame and power for himself.

The Gospel of Luke chapter 12 quotes Jesus as telling his followers: “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth, for I have come not to bring peace, but a sword!”

The Gospel of Matthew chapter 10 gives a longer version, saying that Jesus intended to provoke people to fight each other throughout society, including within families.

“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter in law against her mother-in-law. And the person's enemies will be those of his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.”

Jesus did not advocate for peace. He advocated for Christians to be judgmental, divisive, and unrelenting in their demands that everyone follow their religion.

That’s where Christian Nationalists get their self-righteous totalitarianism. They believe that they have the right to tell everyone else how to live, and that sowing conflict is their sacred duty.

So it is that under Christian Nationalism, America society is falling apart.

Jesus divides.

If you want to repair the social fabric of the United States, Christianity is not the means to do it with.
