We Need Separation of Church and State
On May 17, Donald Trump is going to hold a nationwide governmental Christian prayer rally, paid for by corporations and taxpayers, declaring the USA to be a Christian Nation.
Let’s put aside for a moment any debate about whether gods and messiahs are real.
Look at this practically. Look at the people who are pushing for the United States to be transformed into an officially Christian nation, with a federal government that promotes Christianity in the name of One Nation Under God.
These are not nice people. They’re warmongers like Pete Hegseth who salivate at the idea of dropping bombs on people in foreign countries with no provocation. They’re corporate creeps who are seeking to ride people’s faith-based zeal for Jesus into an anything goes system of corruption where laws are written to favor the companies that send the most money to Christian politicians. They’re raving lunatics like Donald Trump who are only motivated by their selfish desire to achieve some kind of immortality before they die.
We are seeing what religious government is like right now. It’s a chaotic, greedy, violent mess that is destroying democracy, wrecking science and education, and impoverishing the country. Is it okay because Christian Nationalists are unleashing these disasters in the name of Jesus?
No. Christianity's appetite for power is at the root of fascism. Once you have government that runs on faith rather than facts, power hungry people can get away with anything.
We need separation of church and state.
