If There Are No Atheists In The Military…

The US military has declared that there are no atheists in its ranks.

That doesn’t make it true, of course. There are plenty of atheist soldiers and sailors and pilots. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth simply ordered that military atheists no longer be recognized as such. Hegseth ordered the military to recategorize atheists as agnostics, or members of an unspecified “other religion”.

It’s now US military policy that it’s impossible for soldiers not to believe in gods.

This bizarre order reflects Pete Hegseth’s faith-based vision of reality. Anything Hegseth doesn’t like, he simply declares not to be real. That’s a dangerous habit for someone who orders people to go fight in wars of choice, like the unprovoked war against Iran.

Hegseth declares that American soldiers are fighting for Jesus, and for the Christian god.

When he erases the presence of American atheists in the military, and makes Christian worship an official part of military practice, that tells us a great deal about American Christianity. It confirms that American Christianity has become a religion of violence and unquestioning obedience.

They worship angels of aggression. They’re bombing for God. They’re killing for Christ.

American Christianity has become a cult of brutality.
